Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA pt 2: Traditions & Legacy
In addition to my time at Chimney Corners, I had the joy of visiting Camp Becket, and once again, I was blown away.
Camp Becket remains a place where boys are given a unique space to grow, lead, and thrive. Dan Berg is a design genius and is intentional about every detail of camp life, preserving that classic Becket feel while continually evolving.
One of the most powerful traditions is campers helping to build a new cabin—a lasting gift to future generations. It’s one of the only camps I know that offers this kind of hands-on legacy building.
I also had the chance to catch up with former director Dave DeLuca. We discussed the beauty of passing camp leadership from one generation to the next, and how Dan stepped into the role with purpose, as well as how the next director is probably a camper there right now. There’s something truly magical about watching a camp’s spirit live on through the people it shaped.
Thank you to the entire Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA team for hosting me!
