When addressing culture, start with education.

I’m currently working with a camp that’s taking a proactive approach to tackle cultural challenges. We’re not rushing in with big fixes—we’re starting with education.

This is the same advice I give nonprofit boards: “You have to crawl before you walk and walk before you run. It all starts with education.”

One powerful (and simple) tool? Sharing success stories.

As the summer unfolds, send out emails with short, meaningful stories staff and board members can easily forward. A single uplifting example can go a long way in shifting how people think about camp.
